Overview
Aswin Narayanan, who releases music as Somnium Monkey, reached out to me to design a cover and a visualiser for his track The Prelude To Everything.
After listening to the track, the feeling was immediate: this sounds like the soundtrack to the moments right after the Big Bang. That first chaotic, electric rush of energy expanding outward into nothing. That became the entire foundation of the visual direction.
The Concept
The track tells a story of inception, of energy being born and rippling outward, so the visual had to do the same. I wanted something that felt alive, not static. Something that looked like it was in the process of becoming. The idea landed on a nervous-system-like structure emerging from a single point of light, all tendrils and scattered particles radiating into the void. Cosmic, organic, raw.
The Process
Everything was built and generated in TouchDesigner. Rather than composing the visual manually, I set it up so the entire structure grew from a single point, letting the system generate the tendrils and particle scatter organically. The cover is essentially a frozen frame of that process, a moment caught mid-emergence. The video is the full thing, unfolding in real time.
Deliverables
Cover art (1:1, for Bandcamp and SoundCloud) and a looping generative visual (for YouTube or social use).
